I was glad I read it, and it was interesting from a historical standpoint, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it over some oc the other true-life mountaineering books like Into Thin AirAnnapurna: Herzog and his team not only had to climb the darn thing, they had to find the route.

I will not think twice if my expedition leader thinks that it is worth going for. They began their journey with time enough to sumit a mountain nearby Annapurna, but it’s vertical ice walls and relative inaccessibility caused a change from the initial mountain, to a longer trek to Annapurna.
