If I would have written the book, I would have made it so that he was doing it out of anger from a betrayal, not for the love of someone he already had. While I didn’t love Terrier — the first book in the Beka Cooper series — I absolutely adored this one.

For another, I loved seeing Goodwin and Beka in a different environment. The world-building, the writing, and most of all, the characters, are all completely fantastic.

As soon as the group docks Achoo finds the scent again and the hunt continues into the Coooper, where trail ends at burned down bridge. Beka and Achoo head back to the beach, to investigate the ships that were raised. That said, the book was about Beka and boodhound Hunt.


I mean, if a dude in his twenties who’s supposedly met oh so very very many ladies in his day tells you he’s never met a woman who doesn’t like being snuck up on and grabbed from behind in the street at night, that dude is either deeply, deeply stupid, or he’s lying and he thinks you’re deeply, deeply stupid, because it is wildly statistically unlikely that that is actually the case.

It’s not that it dragged it bloodhoundd seemed that some of the plot that was put in there was unnecessary. For one thing I know these books are theoretically supposed to be Beka’s journals but they’ve never convincingly read as so to me. I will also say that it took a good while for me to warm up to Farmer. Bloodhoumd do bloodhoune right. I agree with other reviewers that the characterizations and use of characters, usually one of Pierce’s strengths, goes haywire in this volume.

When she is called on a covert mission, she is grateful. When working with them, she is doing some real work and they get big cases solved. But after a terrible injury, she’s sent to Bloodhoubd Caynn, to keep out of the way of her enemies and find out where the counterfeit silver coins flooding Tortall are coming from.
